Summary of the 2022-2023 academic year
In the academic year 2022-2023, the American International School Progress has a special load, both academically and in terms of infrastructure.
The 2022 academic year was a special date for Progress - the school counted 20 years since its establishment and celebrated the success of its long progressive history by opening a new campus in Batumi with infrastructure corresponding to American standards where around 80 students from all three schools (Tbilisi, Kutaisi, and Batumi) celebrated the graduation ceremony together.
Of course, when we look back on the past year, we can't help but think of the collaborative efforts of our school's students, teachers, administration, parents, and general supporters, without whom it would be difficult to establish a diverse, creative and engaging learning environment.
The educational process for 2022-2023 was carried out continually through collaborative efforts, in the style of perpetual renewal and improvement - with current technologies, diversified learning resources, project-based learning, proper delegation of functions, and good process management.
The American International School Progress joined the international school network ISN, the International Green Schools Society (IGSS) and the Global School Alliance in 2022-2023.
The school has successfully implemented the AP Capstone diploma program and has been actively conducting preparatory courses for AP subjects (AP Calculus, AP History, AP Physics, AP Chemistry, AP Microeconomics), which allow our students to pass the first and second-semester material before enrolling in higher education, to accumulate credits according to the subjects, to pass the exams, and to obtain the CollageBoard certificate, which will be taken into account in case of admission.
We are pleased to announce that our students successfully completed the SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) General, PSAT, SAT topics, and IBT-TOEFL/IELTS exams within the framework of the College Board of the United States of America's authorization of programs.
We signed a memorandum of cooperation with universities (AlterBridge, British University in Georgia) and schools (Tbilisi Classical Gymnasium, Tbilisi Il. Chavchavadze Public School N23) this allows us to collaborate on a variety of projects.
It should be noted that our school has been working with the Goethe Institute for more than ten years to prepare students for "international German language exams." Our school's director is a Goethe Institute scholar who is continuing his studies in Germany on an international program.
In addition, at the initiative of one of our English language teachers, we began an active collaboration with the American museum, Crystal Bridges Museum, which is well-known for different educational tours in the United States and internationally. The collaboration's major purpose is to integrate the arts into other courses, which includes incorporating artistic activities, concepts, and creative thinking into many academic areas. We are glad to say that we were the first in Georgia to collaborate with the Crystal Bridges Museum and that we have implemented and are preparing a lot of exciting and informative projects for the future.
In 2023, we planned and executed a number of significant, large-scale projects alongside our partners. "The Democratic Future of My Country," one of the remarkable and notable essay contests, was implemented in collaboration with the American Embassy and with the support of Georgia's Ministry of Education and Science. The competition in Georgian and English was held throughout Georgia, which aimed to popularize the democratic values of Georgia.
We organized an event at the Sheraton Metekhi Palace Hotel to commemorate the essay competition's award ceremony, which was attended by Tamar Makharashvili, the First Deputy Minister of Education and Science, our primary partner, the creator of the "Anagi" and other many supporters.
The winner of the essay contest received a trip to the United States of America to attend the United Nations conference "CHANGE THE WORLD - MODEL UN CONFERENCE", and the winners of the second and third places received 100% and 50% funding for the course of the American High School (AP) program.
At the awarding ceremony of the essay competition, "The Progress Supreme Award“ was presented to Anagi Development/ Anagi Education and its founder, Zaza Gogotishvili, in recognition of their dedication, along with Progress, to fostering an educated and progressive-minded society."
In addition, we gave the "The Progress Supreme Award" to US Ambassador Kelly Degnan, a supporter and collaborator in many of our projects, for his contribution to the promotion of democratic ideals and education in Georgia.
We have officially formed an "Alumni Association" whose purpose is to establish close and properties between the successful graduates of the Progress, teachers and administration, joint involvement in various activities and professional/career growth of the graduates.
Besides, In an official partnership with the International Association of Modeling United Nations, the school has established the 'Georgian-American Modeling United Nations Society' based on school Progress. This society will provide schoolchildren with the opportunity to participate in local and international UN projects in Europe and the United States of America. Within the framework of this partnership, in March 2024, the Progress delegation will travel to New York for the first time to the UN headquarters and will participate in an international conference with about 5,000 young leaders from around the world.
For many years, progress has been making it possible for students to engage in exchange programs and international conferences:
- During the academic year 2022-2023, 20 students participated in Brighton School's summer programю It is an opportunity to study, live, practice English, and discover new things in Britain;
- 10 students participated in the international conference "Change the World Model United Nations Rome 2023 (CWMUN)" in Rome (Italy);
- Exchange programs with American and European partner schools have been successfully implemented: Bad Oyenhausen Schule, Peter-weiss Gesamtschule, and Unna.Poznan.Torun, Brighton High School;
- Two of our students who won the Millennium Innovation Competition 2022 with their idea "Radiation Research, Monitoring, and Safety System" traveled to NASA.
The school places a strong emphasis on informal learning and club activities. Actively continuing to operate: Media Club (VII-XII grades); Intellectual club "What? where When?" (III-XI grades); Debate Club (VII-XII classes); Business club (VII-XII classes); STEM Club (VII-XII grades); Eco Club (III-XI classes); UN Modeling Club; robotics club (grades V-XII); Literacy - VII-IX class; English Speaking CLUB – V-IX; board games club - V-VII class; Hiking Club - VII-XI class; Cinema club - VII-XII class.
Simulations, role plays, research, field excursions, and case studies are all part of the learning process. This is what enables our kids to compete in and win the competitions listed below, as well as many others. Our students participated in:
- In the National Center of Cinematography "Film School" project;
- In the Millennium Innovation Competition, where they advanced to the final stage and traveled to NASA;
- Berlin International School's Olympiads in mathematics, English, German, and Russian;
- Niko Ketskhoveli school competition: Georgia on the map of Europe, which our students won.
- The "Entrepreneurship Education Festival 2023" organized by Junior Achievement Georgia;
Various instructional, entertaining, and charitable activities are actively carried out, making the educational process diversified and interesting:
- Model UN conferences, intra-school conferences
- cognitive quizzes;
- board games with strategic elements;
- Visits by ambassadors and various companies;
- Charity acts (the proceeds from the most recent action were donated to the Ukrainian city of Dnipro).
Our primary goal is to help both students and teachers grow. This purpose is fulfilled by the teacher training program "Become a Progress Teacher," which has been running successfully for two years. The "360-degree evaluation" model was introduced. This enables employees to obtain feedback from their immediate boss, peers, and subordinates all at the same time.
We can confidently say that the school fosters an inclusive, dynamic, and positive atmosphere where every student or employee can develop intellectually, personally, emotionally, and socially.
As we reflected on the previous academic year, we recognized that every struggle, every success that we celebrated together with joy, and every curricular and extracurricular activity contributed to the development of our school community as a united and enthusiastic family.
It is with optimism, gratitude, and excitement that we bid farewell to the past year and prepare to begin a new, diverse school year with a greater attitude.
We believe that a happy childhood leads to a successful future.
